New Zealand’s regulatory environment for point-of-care test devices is under review, prompting EttieKits to pause sales
For the last two years EttieKits has been helping more people take charge of their sexual health - particularly those who face barriers to traditional clinic testing. Our kits are a private, accessible screening tool that encourages proactive health behaviour. In the context of the current STI epidemic, normalising testing and increasing access was at the heart of why we launched EttieKits.
Currently, there is a wider conversation underway about the regulatory framework for point-of-care test (POCT) devices in Aotearoa - a kōrero that we welcome and support. We are entirely committed to operating within the framework of law and are still able to within the current New Zealand regulatory environment. However, given the current review, we have made the decision to press pause on the sale of EttieKits until there is more clarity on the regulatory environment.
This isn’t a step we take lightly - we’re proud of the work we’ve done to reduce stigma and improve access to testing, and we remain committed to improving sexual health outcomes in Aotearoa. We welcome more robust regulation and clearer standards to ensure that innovation and safety go hand in hand. After all, Ettie Rout was certainly ahead of her time and in that spirit we will continue to advocate for more accessible, available and safe testing for our customers.
